About Us

We are a pottery studio, school, gallery, bookstore, and one of the finest clay facilities in sunny Albuquerque, New Mexico, USA.

We occupy a spacious, well lit, and professionally equipped building in the University/Nob Hill area with a vibrant and diverse community of artists. We offer resident and non-resident studio education, classes, and workshops.

Our gallery is filled with works made in the shop by students, and other arts & crafts made by various, local artisans covering a variety of styles.

Homemade Culture is an open-to-the-public ceramics and pottery studio. Members enjoy access to electric pottery wheels (dual directions), two kick wheels, hand-building and wheel tools, slab roller, extruder, electric kilns, a full art library, Wi-Fi, break-room access, a gallery to sell works, and an experienced staff of technicians, as well as student instructors. Education includes materials costs for ceramics including instruction, clay, slips, glazes, and tool use. We provide everything needed in a pottery studio!

Please remember to come in clothes that can get dirty, as well as closed-toed shoes when visiting our studio.

Studio is open to the general public and their families – all wheel students must be 13 years of age or older. Any persons under 13 years of age, must be under direct-parental supervision.

We always welcome prospective students to come by the studio for a tour, or you can contact us to set up an appointment. (No experience required!)

Just show up in clothes you do not mind getting dirty, and you’re ready for good times! Classes for beginning and intermediate potters are taught on-site, and include lessons in throwing on the wheel, hand-building, sculpture, and surface treatments.

New students must go through a Clay Studio Orientation/Class before working at Homemade Culture (mostly to learn the studio rules, etiquette, and procedures.)

Homemade Culture hosts workshops, arts & craft shows, and Fine Arts Shows featuring hand-made art (not just pottery) throughout the year. Booths are open to everyone, and at a reduced fee for students. We always encourage our students to come out and pitch in for a few hours, having fun.
